When to make your wishes?

Making your wishes on your birthday (as is tradition) is powerful. If you do nothing else, you’re gonna find some magic.

But… your solar return actually happens at an exact time. And that time changes each year. (It’s not just the time you were born!) The closer you make your wishes to the exact time of your solar return, the more powerful your magic will be!

How to get your solar return date and time?

The day and time of your solar return also varies depending on your location in the world. So if you’ll be travelling on your birthday, figure out where you’ll be at the day / time of your solar return. (Location is needed to calculate it.)

FYI: Your solar return may actually fall on the day before or the day after your birthday. That’s normal. No worries!

Once you have the date and time, add it to your calendar with a reminder to make your birthday wishes!

Note: if it’s at a time when you probably won’t be awake, you can either wake up or stay up until that time to make your wishes (sleepiness is a powerful mode to create magic from!) or you can just make them before or after bed.

What to wish for?!

This is YOUR time! You can literally wish for whatever you want!

But here’s the key: Make sure each of your wishes truly represent something you sincerely want.

As you go through the process of deciding what you want to wish for, imagine and feel into what it will be like if it actually comes true.

Does it feel good, light, expansive? Go for it!

Are there potentially unforeseen consequences to getting your wish granted? Revise! I’ll share some examples below.

Let’s say you want to be rich. (Most people do, right?) There is nothing wrong with that.

However, if you simply wish “to be rich”, that could come from something you really do not want. For example, you might get very rich from a beloved relative dying and leaving you an inheritance. Or from a massive settlement due an accident that leaves you permanently injured.

You want to be rich, yes. But I’m guessing not like that!

So, think it through and be very clear! Notice the clarity and difference between “I want to be rich!” and “I wish to be joyfully wealthy!” Because if you’re “joyfully wealthy,” you’re not gonna feel bad about how you got rich, right?

Preparing Your Birthday Wishes

Take your time with this. I recommend you start a week before your birthday if you can, so you don’t feel any pressure to rush this. It’s important!

Make your first list of 30 things you want

Make a list of all the things you want to happen, be, do, have, and experience, either in the year ahead, or in your life in general. No need to get specific yet.

Once you have your list, narrow it down to the top 30 or add some more if you don’t have 30 yet.

Note: If you’re one of the lucky people who simply can’t think of 30 wishes for yourself, you can add wishes for others! Magic for others is ethical if you follow the golden rule. Keep it general and keep your wishes focused on things you know they want or that most, if not all, people would be happy to have. Some examples include: radiant wellness, happiness, peace, joyful abundance, self-love, confidence, comfort, etc. You can also make these same kinds of wishes for the collective aka the whole planet!

Get clear and specific

Now that you have a general idea of what you want in your life, it’s time to get clear and specific.

We already talked a little about being clear and specific with the joyful abundance example above. Now let’s take it further.

You may remember the latest Aladdin movie in which Aladdin wishes “make me a prince”. The genie gives Aladdin a lesson in being specific, by making some random prince appear. These are not the kinds of shenanigans you want from your wishes!

The first 30 seconds here explain it all. And make you question why you even want what you’re wishing for. ;)

Abundance and riches are lovely. But what will make you feel like you are actually rich or abundant? Is there a certain salary that would do it? Would being debt-free make you feel that? Dig a little deeper.

What specific details will make you recognize that your wish has actually been granted? Consider making that part of, if not entirely, your wish.

Make sure your wish is written in a way that is so clear that it cannot be misinterpreted by the genie / Universe granting your wishes.

Don’t assume or take anything for granted. Want your soulmate to arrive and recognize you? Don’t assume that means (s)he’ll show up single and available for you.

Tweak and hone your list

Now that you’ve made your list clear and specific, go through it again. Verify that each item will deliver exactly what you’re asking for. Then make sure each item is something you truly want to come true.

Make any edits necessary. Cross things out, reword them, add. Whatever you need to do. This is your wishlist to the Universe. Make it count!

Then rewrite your list so it’s all clear and easy to read, with each item numbered (so you don’t lose track on your birthday!)

How to Make Your Birthday Wishes

When the date and time of your solar return arrives, here’s what to do.

1. Get your list.

2. (Optional) Grab a candle and something to light it with, if you can. No big deal if you can’t but this will add to the magic!

3. If you can, find a quiet space where you’ll be alone and undisturbed for at least 10 minutes. If you have your candle, light it now.

4. Get comfortable and centered. Sit up tall. Place your hands on your heart, belly, or both. Close your eyes. Take 3 slow, deep breaths: in through your nose, and out through your mouth.

5. Begin to read each wish on your list. Take your time on each one. No need to rush. Imagine each wish coming true. Sense what that will feel like for you! Feel into each wish before you move onto the next.

6. When you’ve completed making your wishes, take another moment to feel into your new reality where every single one of your wishes has come true! Smile. Be at peace. If you have a candle, blow it out now. And know that your magic is done.
